Get fit to the sound of music!
Admit it - working out without your iPod is about as enjoyable as drinking a glass of champagne without the bubbles!
One thing we all have in common is a love for music. We all have our favourite songs, something that makes us tap our feet, jump in the air with excitement or even run around the house when no one is looking.
Exercising to music is a great motivator - it can increase your energy and endurance by up to 15%!
It's easy to feel uninspired without music - often resorting in finishing early or not giving 100% focus. Here are a few tips to help keep you motivated with music:
- If you have what feels like a to-do list as long as your arm, whack on the stereo. Just humming along, wiggling and singing will help you get the job done quickly, whilst burning some calories!
- With most MP3 players you can create a play list on the go, guaranteeing all of your favourite songs being played and no need to skip or to search for the right song for your workout.
- Feeling uninspired about going to the gym? Why not listen to your favourite energetic songs to help you bounce into action when you are there! You will find you feel ready for action and more energized!
- Don't have a gym membership? No problem! Think of your music as your motivation to do exercise. Go for a long walk with the dogs, play some pop songs and have a dance with your children around the living room or even a few sit ups and star jumps at home.
- If you haven't done exercise in a while, and don't feel confident about exercising in public, you're not alone. Music is a perfect distraction to take away the negative thoughts and feelings. Go for a speed walk and listen to a podcast, play list or the radio.
- Think of exercising as your personal time for you and your body. Pick the right music for you to completely zone out, either relaxing through meditation, or a fitness ball workout.
Remember to use your music player only if it is safe, for example do not use one if you are running on the road or cycling, as you need all your senses to keep you safe.
