Does anyone know the answer? How do all the gym bunnies or the people out jogging keep it up and really enjoy it? I would love to be like that! My ultimate goal is to get fit and stay fit but I worry that my initial motivation may wear off. Any tips?
I really don't know....I've just always enjoyed exercise! The results are always a great help and motivation, though. I know they have been for me :) My best tip for enjoyment, however, HAS to be walking, especially with music on, or someone walking with you for company. I try to power walk (interspersed with VERY short bursts of jogging) with my mum at least once a week, when we can. We start walking, start chatting, and before you know it, we've done over 8 miles!!! I kid you not. We managed it in an hour and 40 minutes this Sunday, which is our best time ever. You feel great afterwards, and the fresh air and sunlight are fantastic for your emotional well being, as well as your physical health. That's my top tip, anyway!
And hey, if your motivation DOES start to wear off, you've always got us on the forum to lend a hand if we can :)

You're such a positive person!!!! And with all that exercise you should be a size 8 already. Your posts are great, inspirational. I just need to get off my ***** right now

Awwwww, thank you! :) I try my best!
Thank you so much for the compliment, but size 8 is not something I would ever be want to be again. At 5 foot 10 (and an all important 1/2!!!), I know that I don't look very well at that size, so I'm aiming for a 14, then a 12, and possibly a 10, depending on how I look if and when I get there. It's been that long that I don't even remember how I look :( , but I'm trying to claw my way back, little by little :)
I'm so glad that you like my posts....It means a lot! If I help just one person, I'll be happy :) Did you get off it? Don't worry too much if you didn't....Sometimes we all need a break. I know I do :) Just try again tomorrow!
After many years of hit and miss exercise regimes I am finally getting it! All types of motivation are vital. Variety is a big help. I found this channel during the bad weather and it is a huge help. I have lost 8 pounds after four weeks of this programme and I have much more planned! Keep the effort going and keep letting us know how you are doing
Find something you enjoy doing for a start. People ask me often why I run, and it's becuase I enjoy doing it, to the extent that I can quite happily run all day. Having said that, not everyone does and I speak to SO many people who force themselves to do it becuase they THINK its the right thing to do. There are SO many alternatives to simply doing the standard 'gym' or 'run' workouts. Swimming, cycling, walking, badminton, aerobics, kettlebells, martial arts... I don't really need to continue! Pick something you think you'll enjoy and try it out. If you dont like it, try something else!!
The other good motivator for me is to enter an 'event'. I tend to enter things that involve the activities I enjoy (as above) and the fear, nerves, excitement, adrenaline etc. always kick me into gear. Start with a mass participation walk or short run if you are nervous. There are ALWAYS plenty of people at every level so don't get intimidated. Triathlon is a great example of where most people think all the events will be full of people with less that 10% body fat who are sprinting around - this is simply not true, maybe 20% of participants are super fitness freaks - the rest are just like you and me!
Get out there!
Hi,
Same here, would love to hit the gym for fun but can't see that happening! However I think as said earlier variety is key. I've tried to lose weight before by repetitively doing the same fitness dvd etc but after a week or two I'm bored by it and give up. Last month I decided to try again and have been doing different things every day and now have a routine to stick to. Monday wii fit plus, tuesday ministry of sound fitness dvd, wed just dance on the wii, thur back to the wii but do different activities, fri I have a break and then weekend house work keeps me quite busy and doing things like walking to town rather then catching a bus etc. So far I've lost 11lbs in a month. Just found fitness tv today so thats plenty more variety!
Hi there everyone!

Hi,
I'm desperate for some motivational tips on how to get back to the gym and get into a good routine. I know all the benefits and at 61 feel it is essential to maintain strength, suppleness and general fitness. I've not long come out of a horrid 6 years struggling with agoraphobia and part of what helped was getting into a routine of going to the gym 3x a week. Then my dad took ill, came to live with us, walked out, went into hospital then care home and subsequently died - through all this any structure went out of the window. Now I just can't get back there - Help!!!
