Why have I only just found Fitness TV?!!!!

I'm not sure how long this channel/group has been going, but I literally stumbled on it yesterday while I was flicking through the channels trying to find something to watch on TV.  I can't believe there are fitness classes on TV, for free!   This is a dream for me, I'm currently unemployed and can't afford to go to a class, but honestly even if I could, I wouldn't go.....

I would challenge anyone to beat me on the lethargy stakes, I'm over 40 and have pretty much done no exercise since I left school.   I've just ballooned in the past 18 months, and been on a calories diet for 6 months, losing 2 stone 4lbs which I was thrilled about, dropping from dress size 20 to 16.   But Christmas and NY have seen me pile half a stone back on and yesterday I was sitting on the sofa stuffing tortilla chips *thinking* I must start my diet again.  And then I find this TV channel with classes on it.  So I have a little look through the schedule and spot the Big Workout programme, record it and had an attempt at it tonight.....

And I survived!  I was expecting to have to call the paramedics after 10 minutes, or at least need some oxygen, but it wasn't THAT BAD after all.  And I found myself laughing and actually enjoying doing it.  This has kind of freaked me out!   Yes I'm aching all over and I'm not sure how my legs will carry me upstairs tonight, but thats a good thing, right?!

So I've now visited this site, registered (I sooooo wanna win that holiday!) and now found this forum, so thought I'd say Hello to you all on here!   Who knows if my motivation will last a whole 24 hours (this could just be another of my new fads), whether I'll do the class again, or even whether I'll be back here to post an update, but today was a START, and I'm pretty impressed with myself

I just read some of the previous threads and see that the ideal is to do your daily workout profile (the grid) AND the big workout 3 times a week on top.   I don't think there's a scoobies of me ever doing that, but who knows, maybe this is the start of something big........

Well done you, that's brilliant!!  I started 2 weeks ago and am trying to do 3 sessions a week - two big workouts and 1 other.  Loving the dance workouts although the music could be better - whacked by the end of it but I too haven't collapsed!!  My 15 year old daughter has even done a workout with me, it was fun to get in a muddle with the steps together.

I refuse to weigh myself, don't want to be depressed by going on the scales but I feel better and think my jeans are getting looser (yeahh!). Want to become a size 12 - now a size 16.  I know it's going to take time which is going to be hard cos I want results fast but I'm doing good so far.

Off now to do Big Workout - ticked my three workouts this week.

Thanks Tucker, looks like we have similar goals so will keep an eye out for your progress!   I've not done anything today, but for once not because I can't be bothered but because my legs are killing me after yesterday!  So instead I've set up my planner to record everything I need, luckily I saved the week 1 as I see we're already onto week 2 and about to go to week 3.  I think I'll try and stick with the whole 6 week thing rather than rush to catch up and get into week three.

I mentioned to a gym bunny friend that Scott had suggested the ideal was the full week (7 sessions) plus 3 big workouts, he said that was ridiculous, and not just for a novice like me, everyone needs at least one full rest day a week.  So, I'm going to aim for 3 classes a week, I think that's going to be a stretch as it is.

I just did the low impact aerobics class, boy that's going to take some getting used to.  I thought I was reasonably co-ordinated but I couldn't get the hang of it from the 'mamba' onwards!  Stuck it out but rarely was I doing everything the instructor was doing....   I noticed several people commented about the music synching, I really noticed it just now, I was partly following the beat but I think that was what was getting me in trouble as it didn't really match the instructor so I constantly felt out of synch!

Anyway, it's tick two in the class box, pleased with myself!

I also found the channel by accident. I joined in but was shattered after 10 minutes. I will persist and see if my fitness improves but at my age (76) I will need to go carefully.

Firstly, I LOVE your username!

Secondly, well done. I hope you're enjoying it :)

Thirdly, I found Fitness TV back in September, as I had my second baby at the end of May, and having put on a disgraceful amount of weight with both of my children (like six stones' worth), I decided that enough was enough. I joined Slimming World and started working out with FTV, whenever the kids let me. I started off doing Stuart's Carnival and Salsa workouts, before graduating to 70s Disco Groove, the High Heels Workout, and Low Impact Aerobics with Elise. Just before the Big Workout started, I had dropped over 3.5 stones, and was up to doing Low and High Impact twice a week each, plus Bums Legs and Tums and Aerobic Body Sculpting with Ladan Sultani, as many times as possible. Unfortunately, the Big Workout has edged out most of my favourite classes, (apart from the 7am ones, and I don't have the time for those), and I don't have Sky+, so I do as many Big Workouts I possibly can, and any classes I can fit in in between :)

Fourthly, GOOD LUCK!!! I hope you keep with it, hit all your goals, and please let me know if you want any support :)

TWM - I'm both impressed with you attempting the class, and that you're silver surfing on this forum - go you!

Sheisaliltincan - thanks for your support!  Wow, I can't believe you've lost so much weight already and how many classes you're doing!   I must admit I'm blown away with the number of different classes there are available to try, rather overwhelming!  Shame you can't record the progs, but I guess the upside is it makes you stick to a routine and actually plan to do the sessions, I'm always going to have the 'oh I'll do it later/tomorrow' option available to me which could scupper things.

That said, I did the Big Workout again last night, so that'd THREE classes so far.  This is unheard of for me, I never stick to anything!  I've even made a 3 month calender as a target for myself, with the recommended classes for my beginners status, and tick boxes for every time I do one, or the Big Workout.  And I've included fortnightly weigh in's and measurements so I can (hopefully) see some progress.  Wonder if I'll still be filling it in next week tho.....

Hi WishIhadacoolusername.

Just think that in random sitting rooms, kitchens, wherever - we are all boxing and bouncing around along side you - probably muttering the same imprecations and cheating a bit on the squats and lunges.....

Well done on the 3 month plan. I printed off six weeks but have mainly done the B.W.option, aiming for 3 classes a week. I've ended up with more work (freelance) than I thought I would have for Jan so will grab any of the other classes when I can.

Shesaliltincan - Brilliant progress! You've inspired me to work harder at sticking to portion control. I'm on a healthy heart type diet that includes a lot of soya and oaty things and I think I'm eating more cals than I was before they put me on it. Hmmm. Not good at all.

Keep up the good work Everyone!

Anytime :)

And thank you! I found out at SW tonight, that I've now hit the 4 stone mark, so I'm really, REALLY pleased with my progress. I'm still only about halfway (if that) to where I want/need to be, but I've still got 4 months of Maternity Leave left, so I'm planning on doing as much as possible, while I have a tiny bit more free time, but still plan on fitting in FTV whenever I can after I go back to work too. I want/have to do that many classes, for my own peace of mind. I used to swim at County level until I hit 18, and was always pretty fit, due to training up to nine times a week, so I've always really enjoyed exercise, but I somehow got lazy in the between the ages of 21 and 25, and then again in late pregnancy (both times), since I had pretty large babies, and suffered terrible SPD pain in my pelvis, as underneath all the fat, I have quite small bone structure. Anyhoot, I digress....A LOT!

Well done on doing all your classes so far. Which have you done, and which have you enjoyed the most? And which are you planning on trying? And well done on putting together a three month plan. I'm not thinking that far ahead! I just take each day as it comes, put auto reminders on, and if I'm able to do the class, then I do it, if not, then I don't beat myself up about it. Walking a lot has been another of my great weight loss aides, if you ever get the time or inclination, and it's so good for you (both mentally and physically) to get out in the fresh air/sunshine (ha!!!). I always feel great afterwards. Once you start seeing results, you'll get even more of a kick start motivation-wise, so keep up the good work, and good things will follow! The measurements, along with theweigh-ins, are a BIG help by the way, because sometimes, I've found that even when I haven't lost any weight, I've still lost inches. Keep me posted on how you're doing :)

Aw, I feel so honoured that I've actually inspired someone..Thank you so much for such a compliment! Diet-wise, have you tried including a few more foods which will keep you fuller for longer? People tend to shy away from carbs, but I've never eaten so many in my life as I have on SW!!! Especially potatoes, pasta and couscous :) Things like baked beans and mushy peas are great for that too, then just build in the more calorific foods around it? Worth a shot, if it fits in with your diet, anyway :) I hope it can help you.

I love the thought of us all bouncing around and boxing together too! Well done on putting a good plan together-I've been sticking to doing BW too, as my other favourite classes are on at the wrong times for me now :( The tricep work on BW3 has been killing me, as I'm still so heavy!!!

Let's keep going for it, guys :)
